China asks Russia, Ukraine not to provoke each other

China has asked Russia and Ukraine to avoid escalation and provocation, amid the development of the conflict in the Kursk region.

“We are closely following these developments. China’s position on the Ukraine issue remains consistent and clear. China calls on all parties to adhere to the three principles to ease the situation, namely not to expand the battlefield, not to escalate the fighting, and not to worsen the situation,” the Chinese Foreign Ministry said on Monday.

China also said it would continue to communicate with the international community to play a constructive role in politically resolving the Russia-Ukraine crisis.

Last week, Ukrainian troops crossed the Russian border and launched an offensive in Kursk, capturing several villages in the region.

Responding to the attack, Russian President Vladimir Putin accused Ukraine of carrying out large-scale provocations and firing indiscriminately on civilian targets.

On Sunday (11/8), the Russian Emergencies Ministry (EMERCOM) said more than 8,000 people had left the Kursk border area over the past 24 hours and about 6,000 were in temporary shelters.

The region continues to receive humanitarian aid. Five convoys of vehicles carrying equipment to support temporary shelters will also arrive in Kursk soon.
