Putin discusses resolution of Ukraine, Middle East conflicts with Scholz

Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed initiating a peaceful settlement of the Ukraine conflict in a telephone conversation with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskov said on Friday (5/11).

“You know the president’s speech in June, when he outlined the circumstances that could indicate a resolution of the conflict. Everything was on the agenda of the telephone conversation,” Peskov told Russian journalist Pavel Zarubin.

Peskov added that the two leaders had a detailed and frank conversation.

Putin told Scholz about Russia’s vision of what is happening regarding the conflict in Ukraine and the possible prospects for the development of the situation, Peskov said, adding that there were deep differences between the Russian and German positions, but the fact of the dialogue was very positive.

In addition to discussing Ukraine, the two leaders also discussed the escalation of the situation in the Middle East.

“The deteriorating situation in the Middle East was discussed. Vladimir Putin informed about Russia’s efforts to defuse tensions and find peaceful solutions to crises in the region,” the statement said.
